Birkenstock Pop-up store Cologne, Germany
For the design of the POP-UP Store Cologne BIRKENSTOCK commissioned the dutch interior-designer Ad de Hond (ADH Design) based out of Amsterdam who collaborated with Pieter Kool (carbon-studio) and John van Dorst (thethirstyfisherman).
The design of the pop-up pays homage to the company’s tradition and interprets BIRKENSTOCK’s core values of function, quality, and tradition into an inspiring and brand-appropriate interior. The focus is on natural materials such as cork and leather, for which BIRKENSTOCK is renowned. Of course, the original BIRKENSTOCK footbed and the outsole also play a visually important role in the interior concept of the pop-up store. At the same time, the design of the store with its clear, straightforward, and functional elements refers to the ideas of the Brutalist design movement, which inspired Karl Birkenstock to create the unmistakable design of BIRKENSTOCK products.
